Hi Annie.
I asked my hubby, who knows things, about the difference in the bread. The wheat grown in France is a different variety and grown differently and has a lower gluten content which is probably why people who have issues at home can eat bread in France.
In Australia, the reason for the high gluten content is because the wheat has a high protein content and our farmers are paid for the protein content. We have had to cut down the amount of bread we eat.
I don’t have the technical details but I’ve heard this somewhere else in recent years, so an expert could probably give more precise details, and maybe explain it better than I can.

There’s no point drinking something you don’t enjoy just because the “experts” tell you you should. I like a dry bubbly (whether Champagne or cheap sparkling). Thankfully it doesn’t give me a headache, unlike still wine which will.

What you’re thinking with F&C is no doubt correct. Put “mad” in between and that is a compliment. Well, at least in our family. Or you can just leave the F off if they’re not quite as awesome as some but still pretty good.April 28, 2021 at 11:16 am #1217JennyParticipantThat is so lovely.
April 28, 2021 at 11:03 am #1216JennyParticipantI know this is funny – especially the very last box – but this is truly how it feels to an Australian from the bush where the worst sounding insult is actually a compliment (if you ask me I’ll tell you but it involves the F and the C words). Seriously. I am terrified of insulting someone by using the wrong pronoun but I’m also Australian and we don’t do formal.
April 15, 2021 at 8:27 pm #1180JennyParticipantThe closest we get is going to the pub for dinner on a Friday. But this week we went on Thursday since my husband is going fishing for the weekend.
I do sometimes think it would be good to pre-plan a (flexible) menu for the week but we tend to be spontaneous about what we eat and when. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn’t.
April 13, 2021 at 9:27 pm #1172JennyParticipantIt sure was a big day but it was a 5 day coach tour from the UK. Mum wanted to go but didn’t want to travel independently. At least being a coach tour we didn’t have to worry about getting there or parking. I wouldn’t do it again, that’s for sure.
April 13, 2021 at 8:54 am #1161JennyParticipantOh yes, the house was crazy. So was Versailles which we did on the same day. Same thing. The house was packed but the gardens were lovely.
March 31, 2021 at 11:46 pm #1120JennyParticipantHow very timely. A friend just gave us his set because he never used it. What I want to know is … how do you know whose boule is whose when you go to count them up? They are all the same, not like lawn bowls where each person’s bowls have a different colour spot.
We sat and watched Pétanque being played when we visited Luganville in Vanuatu when we were on a cruise. It was nice to watch for a little while but I wouldn’t say it was a gripping spectator sport.
We will have to practice for when we come to France next.
March 31, 2021 at 11:39 pm #1119JennyParticipantMerci Annie. I definitely will. Plus I want to go back to La Halle de la Machine to see more of the indoor displays in operation and maybe be brave enough to ride the giant spider.
March 30, 2021 at 8:03 am #1105JennyParticipantAha, success!
March 30, 2021 at 8:03 am #1104JennyParticipantThanks Annie. Yes, that’s what I did but I also was trying to add 2 photos. I’ll just try one and see if that works.
March 29, 2021 at 9:26 am #1097JennyParticipantOk, so it doesn’t seem to like my photos. So here’s the text.
Local is a relative term for us. Anything within a day’s drive is fair game. A few weeks ago we visited the Town of 1770, which is about 5.5 hours away. The main purpose was to visit the light house which we did on a full day LARC tour. The LARC is an amphibious vehicle.
March 29, 2021 at 9:12 am #1095JennyParticipantI swear I just posted a reply to this but it isn’t showing. I will try again.
